Kabita Sarkar Takes on the RG Kar Rape-Murder Case

Kabita Sarkar, a lawyer with 25 years of experience, is defending Sanjoy Roy in the high-profile RG Kar rape-murder case.
Appointed by the Sealdah court, Sarkar took on the case after it was turned down by other lawyers.
After graduating in law from Hooghly Mohsin College, Sarkar began her career at the Alipore court, focusing initially on civil cases.
She transitioned to criminal law in February 2023 as a SALSA (State Legal Services Authority) lawyer and moved to the Sealdah court in June 2023.
Sarkar’s decision to represent Roy reflects her belief that everyone, including the accused, deserves a fair trial.
Given the case's sensitivity, she has asked her senior, Sourav Banerjee, to assist her throughout the proceedings.
